Interplay

The pictured renderings are from a group project focused on transforming the courtyard of Mt. Olive Elementary School located in Alcoa, TN into an outdoor classroom. From the initial phases of this project to the final iterations of the design, we met closely with Mt. Olive faculty, staff, and students to understand what they want from this space and modify features as needed. Working with the professor of the course, the group decided on a design that would separate the courtyard into three separate learning spaces centered around a focal learning pavilion made of wooden slats. Each learning space is filled with plenty of color and makes use of sustainable and durable  materials that will stand up to weather conditions and child’s play. The final product was pitched to the client board and Mt. Olive is currently seeking funding for the project. It is hopeful that construction will begin within the next few years.
